About Us
TNBF is a 100% owned subsidiary of TNB. Like a dutiful child to our parent - TNB - we mainly focus on stisfying any requirements arising from the purchase and supply of fuel and coal for power generation to TNB's group of companies, or any independent power producers (IPP) who are in a power purchase agreement with TNB.
TNBF currently procures coal via a number of agreements from producers in Indonesia, Australia, South Africa and Russia. However, in taking a lesson from Mark Twain who says "An open mind leaves a chance for someone to drop a worthwhile thought in it", we will not limit ourselves from opportunities that emerge from alternative coal supply sources internationally.
Over the long term, we aim to provide our coal-fired stations with coal supplies at the lowest delivered cost, all whilst maintaining supply reliability and coal quality, meeting all environment requirements (because we at TNBF love planet Earth!) and - for our stakeholders' benefit - simultaneously keeping market risk at an acceptable level.
As part of our commitment to excellence, we do not limit our range of services to merely coal-specific products. We also manage and supply Distillate Fuel (DF) and Medium Fuel Oil (MFO) to TNB, as well as provide stand by fuel to our customers.
Our Company
TNBF has been in operation since September 1998, and we have seen coal over millions of tonnes go through our doors. Our valued employees who make up TNBF ensure that our products stay topnotch in the industry – nay, the world. We are committed to excellence in everything that we do – from the products that we procure and generate, to the service we provide our customers. The knowledge that we maintain integrity in providing superior products whilst ensuring all our customers’ coal needs are taken care of… is what puts a smile on our faces every day.
Our energy is, after all, yours.

As part of the TNBF experience, our customers can expect to:
- Be provided with services that will give you complete satisfaction when we meet or exceed your quality specifications
- Receive fuel of the desired quality at the right time and at the least possible cost
- See a continuous improvement of our services
- Rest assured knowing that our products are made in compliance with all relevant regulations and legislative requirements
Quality, Excellence, and Customer Satisfaction are words that you’ll come across time and again in your interaction with us. This is what makes us so proud of our achievements since TNBF’s inception. TNBF was ISO 9001:1994 certified on 22 March 2000, upgrading to ISO 9001:2000 in 2002. The latest notch in our proud awards post is the 5S Certification from MPC on 3 December 2009.
In all that we do at TNBF, from the managers, the engineers and our security detail, we aim to keep these values and principles close to our heart:
- We will remain steadfast in our commitment to provide excellent products and services
- Our approach to business is customer-focused and we will always cultivate long term and mutually beneficial bilateral relations between us and our customers
- Every individual in TNBF is responsible for the betterment and continuous improvement on our processes, products and services, no matter how big or small that job might seem
- Quality is an enduring principle at TNBF and we will always uphold it in everything that we do
For the planet…
Apart from serving our customers and nurturing relationships with suppliers from around the world, we also serve to minimise the effects of energy processing on our planet. We only accept low rank coal from recognised producers and miners that comply with global standards in quality, which in effect, reduces pollution emission to the environment. This attitude towards green sustainability also translates to our customers, who have employed systems and methods like ash ponds and sprinkler systems to reduce pollution to their respective environment. They also practise regular re-planting of mangrove trees to aid their surround ecology.
And for the people…
On our part, TNBF abides by strict rules of adorning Personal Protection Equipment when our employees conduct site visits to limit exposure to harm. We also routinely organise contributions to orphanages by way of buka puasa dinners (breaking of fast) with the children during Ramadan, and have previously lent a helping hand to victims of the extensive flooding on Peninsula Malaysia’s East Coast.
We do this not only because our energy is yours, but our hearts and our hands too.
