TNBF RECOGNIZED AS LEADER IN SUPPLYING BIOMASS TO ENERGY SECTORS

26 May 2024, Pontian | TNBF has achieved a significant milestone by being recognized as a leader in supplying biomass to the energy sectors. This accolade comes in light of TNBF’s critical role in the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) catalyst project, which involves co-firing coal with biomass at Tanjung Bin Power Sdn Bhd (TBP), a subsidiary of Malakoff Corporation Berhad (MCB).
The catalyst project co-firing initiative, was launched today by YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), at TBP. The ceremony marked a significant step towards integrating renewable energy sources into traditional power generation methods.

Under this initiative, MCB is spearheading efforts to combine biomass, derived from plant materials, with coal in the power generation process at TBP. This innovative approach aims to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the environmental impact of climate change by incorporating renewable energy sources into conventional coal-fired power plants.

TNBF’s contribution to this project underscores its commitment to sustainable energy solutions and its leadership in the biomass supply sector. “The company’s involvement is pivotal in ensuring the successful implementation of co-firing practices, which promise to enhance energy efficiency and promote environmental stewardship” said Tuan Haji Jamal Yusoff, Managing Director of TNBF.

Today’s launch highlights the government’s dedication to advancing energy transition strategies and reinforces the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving national sustainability goals. The integration of biomass with coal at TBP is expected to set a precedent for similar initiatives across the nation, fostering a cleaner and more sustainable energy future for Malaysia.

Also present, YBhg. Tan Sri Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, Chairman of MCB and YBhg. Dato’ Razib Dawood, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Energy Commission, Tuan Haji Jamal Yusoff Managing Director of TNBF, representatives from Ministry of Plantation and Commodities, Single Buyer and PETRA.
